An Arizona addiction-treatment clinic owner was sentenced to 14 years in prison for fraudulently billing the state's Medicaid program more than $69 million in less than a year, the Justice Department said.
Rita Ntusa Anagho was also ordered to pay nearly $55 million in restitution and forfeit assets prosecutors said were traceable to the fraud. The government said many patients used in the scheme were Native Americans covered by a Medicaid program with higher reimbursement rates.
The prosecution was part of a broader federal effort to target health-care fraud involving public insurance programs and vulnerable patient populations.
