The Weinberg Center for the Arts plans to unveil an interpretive panel documenting the building's history of racial segregation on Oct. 2.
The city says physical remnants of segregated facilities remain in the mezzanine from the period when the venue operated as the Tivoli Theatre. The new panel is intended to explain how Black patrons were separated from white audiences and required to use separate facilities.
The unveiling will take place just before the start of the Weinberg Center's 100th anniversary season and is part of a broader effort to present a fuller account of the landmark's history.
