A Russian citizen living in Miami Beach was sentenced to six years in prison for organizing an identity-theft and financial-fraud scheme that also included attempts to submit fraudulent voter registrations, the Justice Department said.
Dmitry Shushlebin, 45, was also sentenced to three years of supervised release and ordered to pay $458,839.69 in restitution. Prosecutors said the scheme used fake identities and sham companies to obtain credit cards and loans.
The Justice Department said the voter-registration activity was part of the broader fraud scheme. The sentence was imposed after Shushlebin's conviction in federal court.
